TATMADAW members, Myan­mar Police Force personnel, foreign rescue teams, and vol­unteers are intensifying coor­dinated efforts in rescue and rehabilitation operations in the areas affected by the Mandalay earthquake.

 

Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Command­er-in-Chief (Army) inspected debris clearance and mainte­nance work at religious sites in Sagaing. He also reviewed the cleaning of drains, the removal of debris, and the assessment of collapsed buildings, pago­das, and religious structures along the main road in Thaw­tapan Ward, NanOo Myothit, Poetan Ward, and Ywahtaung Ward in Sagaing Township. Renovation and reconstruction work at the SunU Ponnyashin Pagoda on Sagaing Hill and repairs to other damaged are­as using machinery were also inspected.

 

Later, officials from the Ministry of Health inspected healthcare services provid­ed by the Tatmadaw Mobile Medical Team to monks, nuns, and residents in Sagaing at the 700th Anniversary Gymnasi­um in Parami Ward. They also oversaw the clearance of the football stadium, which had col­lapsed due to the earthquake, by Myanmar Police Force per­sonnel and coordinated efforts with relevant authorities.

 

Similarly, Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), along with Central Region Command Commander Brig- Gen Kyaw Ko Htike and oth­er officials, visited Mandalay General Hospital to encourage patients in the Neurosurgery and Orthopaedic Departments, providing them with nutritious food. Officials then inspected preparations for the remov­al and clearance of Building A of Sky Villa in Aungmyay­thazan Township, Mandalay, which was damaged by the earthquake. They observed the removal of debris from demolished buildings and the systematic handling of items recovered during the clear­ance, which were submitted to the Material Collection and Return Team. Coordination with relevant authorities fol­lowed as necessary.

 

Afterwards, the team visit­ed Mahamuni Pagoda in Chan­myathazi Township, where de­bris had already been cleared. Temporary support structures and reconstruction work are now underway to ensure the site’s safety for public visits.

 

Likewise, Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) visited Maygawun Monastery in Amarapura Township, a pagoda in Kuntheetan Ward, and inspected the cleaning and renovation of monasteries and pagodas affected by the earth­quake.

 

Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing from the Office of the Com­mander-in-Chief (Army) vis­ited Basic Education High School (Myoma) in Phaungywa Ward and the No 1 Basic Ed­ucation High School in Sugon Ward in Kyaukse Township, and he offered encouragement to students preparing to retake the Grade 12 examination. He also inspected the resumed exam session, which had been disrupted by the earthquake, at the Government Technical Institute (Kyaukse) in Tasoe Village. In addition, he re­viewed the construction of three temporary departmental buildings in the staff housing complex of the District General Administration Body in Sukone Ward, which was damaged by the quake.

 

He then attended the Flood Prevention Coordina­tion Meeting held at the hall of the Department of Highways in Kyaukse Township, where he made recommendations on preparedness involving per­sonnel, machinery, procedures, and relief materials for natural disaster response by officials in each township.

 

Next, he visited the Fire Services Department to review preparations for emergency rescue operations in the event of natural disasters and pro­vided food supplies to staff members.

 

It was also reported that the team visited Thamane Kyaw Monastery in Taungnan­tha Kwatthit Ward in Kyaukse, where they donated cash and other items to the monks. — MNA/MKKS
