Kawthoung 30 January
83 Myanmar migrant workers—74 men and 9 women—were handed over to local authorities in Kawthoung by Myanmar labour attaché U Zaw Min Aung by boats via Ranong of Thailand on 29 January.
The Myanmar migrant workers were detained for crossing the border and living in Thailand illegally. They were returned back to Myanmar after being taking action by Thai officials. The returnees were welcomed by concerned officials from the General Administration Department, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, the Anti-Human Trafficking Police, the Department of Labour and the Department of Disaster Management.
Local authorities offered healthcare services to the returnees and gave necessary assistance to them in order to come back to their home in a safe and secure manner. The deported Myanmar migrant workers come from Taninthayi, Ayeyawady, Yangon and Bago Regions and Mon and Rakhine State.
The number of Myanmar migrant workers who were repatriated from Thailand via Kawthoung border gate so far totaled 816.—Kyaw Soe (Kawthoung)
