UNEXPECTEDLY large crowds were seen at Seleintan beach during Thingyan holiday, according to locals and visitors. Compared to previous years, in addition to day trips, there are also more overnight stays in bungalows.
“This year, Seleintan beach is very crowded. There are many people from Yangon. There are also visitors from nearby places. Some people who do not go to far places come here, which is a beach near Yangon and easily accessible. This year, unlike last year, it is very crowded with travellers since the beginning of Thingyan holiday,” said a local.
During the Thingyan holiday, there is a continuous influx of cars, motorcycles and many tourists every day.
“There are unexpectedly large crowds coming to Seleintan Beach. There are many tourists,” said a staff member at the Beach Sunset restaurant.
With large visitors since the summer school holidays, the beach has been thronged with vacationers, creating more job opportunities for food vendors and locals.
Since there are high tide and low tide at the beach, tourists who want to swim have to call in advance and the beach has bungalows for those who want to stay overnight, according to locals. — MT/ZN
