Union Minister Dr. Myo Thein Gyi held a discussion yesterday morning at the university with the rector, pro rector, department heads and teachers at Yangon Region University of Information Technology.

University of Information Technology Rector Dr. Saw Sanda Aye explained about the university, reviewed works conducted during the school year, as well as programmes held globally with international contacts, research undertaken, construction projects to build a sports field and classes, and job opportunities created for students.

After Deputy Minister for Education U Win Maw Tun delivered a greeting speech, Union Minister Dr. Myo Thein Gyi discussed the requirement to encourage and conduct project based teaching/learning for curriculums and graduate courses that are appropriate to the region. Teachers are to have good English language and ICT skills in order to produce qualified graduates and upgrade their lifelong learning skills. To do this, teachers are to conduct courses appropriate for the region and real life situation and upgrade the curriculum.

Furthermore conducting researches, reading research papers and writing in local and foreign research journals are to be encouraged. In addition to this universities are required to conduct competitions to raise capacities in science, technology, engineering, arts, culture and sports.

Websites of universities must be in English and there should be details and information about the universities. English and ICT skills are a must in order to compete in this modern era.

There should be university development programs to review and correct the weaknesses and strengthen the strengths.

Discussions made by the teachers were then coordinated.

Similarly the Union Minister went to Yangon University of Economics and Yangon University in the afternoon and held discussions with rectors, pro rectors, department heads, students and staffs. — MNA(Translated byZaw Min)
