Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi joined the 2020 UNESCO Global Education Meeting via Zoom Webinar on 22 October. UNESCO Director-General Ms Audrey Azoulay, UN Secretary-General Mr António Guterres, Prime Minister Ms Erna Solberg, Ghana’s President Mr Nana Akufo-Addo, UK Minister for Foreign Affairs and Development Ms Baroness Sugg respectively made an opening speech. Then, they discussed 2020 Global Education Meeting declaration and read the message of teachers’ association and other attendees to the meeting coordinated the meeting under the topic of Reimagine and Re-commit to Education.
In his discussion, Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi talked about the importance of policies, plans and improving affordability in implementing the inclusive, equal and quality education, discrimination in education sector, leaving no one behind, elimination of school dropouts, KG+12 education systems including new curriculums for 21st century skills, Myanmar Digital Education Platform (MDEP) and multiple training for basic education level teachers.
He also talked about home-based learning via MDEP, educational TV channels and FM radios, DBE Boxes and DBE sticks for remote areas, High-tech Learning and High-touch Learning, Special Needs Education Prgrammes, 20pc of budget for education sector, ministry’s efforts to meet Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG) and work plans for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
Then, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Ms Stefania Giannini concluded the meeting.
