A discussion on word usage in movies, the Myanmar language and in translations of literature, held at the Film Development Center in Yangon yesterday afternoon.

Union Minister for Information Dr. PeMyint attended the talks.

First, he inspected works being conducted in the movie industry and arts at No. 50 Golden Valley, Bahan Township, Yangon.

Union Minister Dr. Pe Myint accompanied by Myanmar Film Asiayone Chairman U Zin Waing, Myanmar Music Asiayone Chairman U Tin Oo Lay and officials first inspected the studios and shooting of movies in the studios at the movie and arts environ.

Next, the Union Minister attended the talk circle on word usage in movies, Myanmar language and literature usage in translation held at Film Development Center and delivered an opening remark.

The talk circle was then held where Film Development Center management board member Daw Swe Zin Htike explained and discussed about the current status.

Afterwards U Myo Myat Thu (author/advisor, Forever Group) led Maung Khin Min (Danu Phyu) (retired Myanmar language professor, Myanmar Language Department, Yangon University and Myanmar Language Board full time member), U Win Nyein (movie and video censor member), U Zaw Myint Oo (script writing expert), U Kyaw Swar Tun (general manager, Shwe Than Lwin Company) and U Kyaw (translation department head, Forever Group) in discussing correct spelling and grammar in Myanmar language, notifications and enactments by Myanmar Language Board and related entities, movie producers to be precise and careful in spelling and usage of Myanmar language and words, spoken and written words in movie, video and television to be error free, scripts used in the current movie circle, omissions and mistakes in using Myanmar language and literature in social environs.

Officials then responded to the discussions and questions raised and Film Development Center management board member U Zaw Myint Oo spoke words of thanks.

The talk circle was jointly organized by Information and Public Relations Department and Film Development Center management board with an aims for young viewers of Myanmar movies and Myanmar language captioned foreign movies to know the correct usage of Myanmar language, recognize the incorrect usages and to use correct usages.

The Union Minister then attended another discussion circle on Myanmar literature and language jointly organized by Ministry of Information Sarpay Beikman and Knowledge Distribution Group Myanmar in Sarpay Beikman hall at Merchant Street, Yangon.—MNA
