Vessels and cargo ships are to follow the instructions with buoys when water in Chindwin River is on the ebb, according to U Tin Aung Tun, an assistant director of Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems in Sagaing Region.
“In summer, the current in the lower reaches of Mawlaik and Homalin become narrow. Therefore, buoys were put at the narrow current. If the vessels abide by the instructions with buoys when water is on the ebb, the current will be sustainable and will ensure public safety as well as swift flow of commodity” he said.
The duration from November to May is designated as a crisis-ridden period of low water level in Chindwin River. Therefore, the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River System is placing buoys to prevent vessels from getting stranded.
