Vietnam posts bigger export, import in January, February

 

Vietnam made export turnovers of roughly 36.7 billion U.S. dollars in the first two months of this year, up 5.9 percent year-on-year, and import turnovers of nearly 36.8 billion dollars, up 7.5 percent, seeing a trade deficit of 80 million dollars, General Statistics Office said Thursday.

 

 

Specifically, Vietnam earned 6.8 billion dollars from exporting phones and their components, down 7.3 percent; 4.9 billion dollars from garment and textile products, up 19 percent; 4.2 billion dollars from electronic products and components, up 1.9 percent; and 2.7 billion from footwear, up 18.4 percent.

 

 

In the two-month period, the United States remained Vietnam's biggest export market with turnovers of 8.1 billion U.S. dollars, up 34.4 percent, tailed by the European Union with 6.3 billion U.S. dollars, up 1.2 percent, and China with 5.1 billion U.S. dollars, down 9.3 percent, announced the office.

 

 

Meanwhile, Vietnam spent 7.5 billion dollars on importing electronic appliances and their components, up 11.4 percent; 5.6 billion dollars on machines, equipment and spare parts, up 14.6 percent; 2.1 billion dollars on phones and components, down 12.6 percent; and 2.1 billion dollars on cloth, up 16 percent.

 

 

From January to February, China was Vietnam's largest import market with turnovers of 10.7 billion dollars, up 17 percent, followed by South Korea with 7.4 billion dollars, down 2.1 percent, and the ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) with 4.7 billion dollars, up 1.4 percent, announced the office.

 

 

In 2018, Vietnam reaped export turnovers of over 243.5 billion dollars, up 13.2 percent against 2017, and import turnovers of 236.7 billion dollars, up 11.1 percent, posting a trade surplus of 6.8 billion dollars.
