THE government of Myanmar has quickly assessed the dam­age in earthquake-affected ar­eas and is carrying out timely rescue operations. Besides, hu­manitarian aid from overseas has been arranged for the earth­quake victims. The aid materi­als, donated by the Vietnamese government arrived yesterday afternoon at Yangon Interna­tional Airport.

 

The shipment, weighing 22,139 kilogramme, includes tarpaulins, food and medical supplies. Upon arrival, the ma­terials were received by officials from the Yangon Region govern­ment, including Chief Minister U Soe Thein and other regional government ministers, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

 

Lt-Gen Nguyen Tuan Ang, Director-General of the De­partment of Fire Fighting and Rescuing, was also present to hand over the aid materials. The Yangon Region Chief Minister officially received the aid on behalf of the government. — MNA/KZL
