Organizers of the World Economic Forum have decided to hold next year's meeting in Singapore in May due to the coronavirus pandemic. The forum is usually held every January in the ski resort of Davos, Switzerland.

They said on Monday that the annual gathering of government and business leaders will take place from May 13 to 16 in the Asian city-state.

Singapore was chosen because it has managed to keep coronavirus infections relatively under control.

Organizers had earlier decided to delay the 2021 meeting to May and move the venue to another location in central Switzerland.

They now say it will be difficult to secure the safety of both participants and the host community in the Swiss town, even in May.
